During the season of Lent We are Called to repent and come closer to God. During lent we often sacrifice or give up certain pleasure we have. Lent lasts 40 days and if you count all the days in Lent you will count 46 this is because when we count the days in Lent we do not count the Sundays. We don't count Sundays because every sunday is a celebration of Easter.
The 3 Pillars of Lent are Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. During Lent we are to increase our prayer life. A good way to practice this is praying everyday. Maybe make it your goal to go to Mass every day. The second Pillar is Fasting. When fasting we obstain from meat on Fridays and offer up common treat we usually have that we take for granted. The third pillar of Lent is Almsgiving. When almsgiving maybe take the miney you would have spent on that treat and donate it to the Church.
Holy Week is the most important week in the Catholic faith. Holy week begins with Palm Sunday, when Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey and prepares himself for what is to come. On Holy Thursday, Jesus institutes the Eucharist and Priesthood at the Last Supper. After the last Supper, Jesus goes to pray in the garden of Gethsemane, where the Apostles fail to keep watch and defend Jesus. Judas turns Jesus in. On Good Friday, Jesus was sentenced to death, scourged at the pillar, and then picked up his cross. Jesus died at 3:00 pm and was laid in the tomb. On Easter Sunday, Jesus rises from the dead as He said He would.
